Choose a red apple that is round and can stand upright on its own. Use an apple corer and carve out about ⅔ of its core from the top into a hollowed area with some apple left at the bottom. Place a tapered candle into the hole. Add some sprigs of holly and evergreen, and perhaps a ribbon or string bow, tied at the base of the candle.

Tissue (folded) paper star
Make 8 squares of tissue or kite paper. The kite paper is more durable and less likely to fade in the sun. Similar to origami, fold each shape into a pointed triangle and then glue all of them together with transparent drying glue.
